Photos from 9/2/2014 on our hike. We departed Little Yosemite Valley campground in the morning and followed the John Muir Trail to just past the Sunrise High Sierra Camp.
While the vertical striping down the back of Half Dome is interesting, I most like zooming in to see the hikers on the shoulder (diagonal white line near the top-center).
This dead tree was losing its bark in giant hunks.
Sunrise
Here, we are starting the climb up Sunrise Mt. To our right is Sunrise Creek, or it should be. It was almost completely dry, save a few places where water managed to trickle to the surface.
Fire
This fire was thought to have been start by lightning strikes. I believe Mt Starr King is the peak behind the smoke. Within a few days, the fire dramatically expanded and forced the Park Service to evacuate hikers off of Half Dome via helicopter.
Legacy of Fire
Looking down into Little Yosemite Valley shows the result of past fires.
Sunrise Meadow
Sunrise Meadow can be seen here from about a mile away.
